This September, Northern Illinois Food Bank will join the Feeding America network and communities across the country in recognizing Hunger Action Month, an annual campaign that raises awareness about hunger and inspires people to take action to fight hunger.
Northern Illinois Food Bank's 13 county service area throughout suburban and rural Northern Illinois continues to experience historic demand for food assistance, serving an average of 570,000 neighbors each month, surpassing peak COVID-era demand. To help meet the need, the Food Bank's network of more than 900 food pantries and feeding programs distributed 98 million meals in fiscal year 2026, underscoring the importance of continued community support.
Northern Illinois Food Bank encourages individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to find a way to take action in the fight against hunger this September. "Whether you volunteer your time at the Food Bank or local food pantry, donate, advocate for policies that address hunger or help raise awareness, every action makes a difference. Together, we can ensure our neighbors have the food they need to thrive," said Julie Yurko, President and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank.
