Great Lakes Naval Station Reopens After Lockdown (UPDATED)
The base closed its gates for about an hour because of an off-base armed robbery, according to the installation's Twitter feed.

The Great Lakes Naval Station has been locked down because of an off-base armed robbery Friday, according to the facility's Twitter feed.
The gates to the base have been closed, as well as the housing units and the Great Lakes Burkey Mall Naval Exchange, according to an update.
LOCKDOWN (RUN, HIDE, FIGHT). TAKE IMMEDIATE COVER IN NEAREST BUILDING. AWAIT INSTRUCTION. ALL GATES ARE CLOSED.

An update at 2:26 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, told personnel "within the fence line" that they could relax while awaiting further orders. The gates, however, remained closed, according to the update.

UPDATE (3:13 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12): The Great Lakes Naval Station lifted the lockdown at around 3:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12,
ALL CLEAR. ALL PERSONNEL AND AREAS RELEASED FROM LOCKDOWN. GATES 1, 6, 7 & 9 OPEN.

No details were immediately given about the armed robbery or why it was safe to lift the lockdown.

UPDATE (7:27 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12): The armed bank robbery that led to the lockdown was at Great Lakes Credit Union, 2525 Green Bay Road, in North Chicago, according to BanditTracker.com.
A man wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask held up the credit union at about 1:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, with a knife, the website reported.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a suspect was apprehended by police in the 2500 block of 25th Street. Charges are still pending against the suspect and could be filed this weekend, the report stated.
