Audrey Semmelman passed away at the Sheridan of Green Oaks in the early hours of December 27, 2022.

Audrey was born on May 13, 1933 in Lake Forest, Illinois. Other than when she was in DeKalb to study teaching and in Champaign while her husband was in law school, Audrey lived in Lake Forest her entire life.

Family was of greatest importance to Audrey. She was the ultimate nurturer and cheerleader for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Audrey brought family together, hosting weekly Sunday Night Dinners, and finding other opportunities to gather. She loved celebrating her birthday and other family birthdays.

Audrey was an avid tennis player and skier. Her passion for skiing led her to become an instructor, and later the trip director, for the Snowflake Ski Club. Audrey had many friends and remained robustly active until late in life and even took on new hobbies like scuba diving and long-distance bike riding.

She loved to experience the world through travel and parlayed her love of adventure into a career as a travel agent. At home, she knit for herself and loved ones, enjoyed time in the sun, and cooked her signature dishes.

Audrey’s favorite day of the year was Lake Forest Day. For several years, she helped recruit marching bands and other units for the parade. As a parade supervisor she had the privilege of driving a golf cart along the route. The grandkids loved to tag along.

Audrey is survived by her husband, Andy Semmelman, her children David (Beth) Semmelman, Peggy (Ron) Timm, Drew (Hillary) Semmelman, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Audrey and her life is being planned for May 2023. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial remembrance to your favorite charity. Audrey favored charities that provide food for those in need, the American Red Cross, and the Boys & Girls Club.
