Bald Eagle Moves to Lake Forest
The one-year-old female is injured, but now has a permanent home at the Wildlife Discovery Center.

LAKE FOREST, IL - A female bald eagle now calls the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest home.
The one-year-old bird was hit by a car in South Carolina and sustained a permanent wing injury, according to a news release. She will need to be kept in captivity for the rest of her life.
Rob Carmichael, Curator of the Wildlife Discovery Center, made a 2,000-mile round-trip to bring the bird to the Wildlife Discovery Center at 1401 W. Middlefork Dr.

"She will be a big attraction at the WDC," Carmichael said. "She does not have a name yet, but we will be establishing a contest and publicizing it on our Facebook page. Her favorite foods are whole fish and rodents.”
Eventually, the bald eagle will be integrated into the Center’s onsite and outreach education programs.

The bald eagle was recently considered an endangered species, but the risk of extinction has been lowered to "low" following a steady population increase in recent years.
