Basketball Tournament Attendee Tests Positive For Coronavirus
Someone at a June 14 basketball tournament in a Waukegan park has tested positive for COVID-19, the Lake County Health Department announced.

WAUKEGAN, IL — One of the attendees at a basketball tournament held earlier this month in Waukegan has tested positive for the coronavirus, health officials announced Tuesday.
Anyone who attended the "Above the Rim Classic" tournament June 14 at Belvidere Park should self-quarantine at home until Sunday, call a health care provider if symptoms develop and get tested for COVID-19, according to an alert from the Lake County Health Department.
"This pandemic is far from over," Mark Pfister, executive director of the health department, said in a statement. "The virus is still spreading in our communities, and if we let our guard down we could see cases and deaths start to rise again in Lake County."

Health department officials also recommended anyone who has recently attended a demonstration or protest get tested after waiting five and seven days after the event to avoid producing a false negative. People with symptoms should get tested immediately.
Symptoms can show up anywhere from two days to two weeks after exposure, according to health officials. They may include: fever or chills, coughing, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, muscle or body aches, fatigue, headaches, congestion, sore throat, nausea, diarrhea or vomiting.

As of Tuesday, more than 9,400 Lake County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and the deaths of 367 residents were associated with the disease.
They include more than 2,600 Waukegan residents, according to the Lake County Health Department. But it is not publicly known how many residents of Waukegan or other communities have died from COVID-19.
That's because state and county public health officials have declined public records requests for data showing how many residents of each community have died, their ages and any secondary causes of deaths of people included in tallies of COVID-related fatalities. As a result, the Illinois Attorney General's Office has opened a review into assertions by representatives of the Illinois Department of Public Health that it would violate health privacy laws to release the same information for Lake County coronavirus deaths as is currently released in Cook County.
