Natale Caputo, President of Caputo Cheese tells us about the not-so- scary Muenster cheese…

“I love Muenster Cheese. Semi-hard German-American cheese with an interesting orange color. Traditionally, Germans created the orange color by washing the rind of the cheese while aging. Today, most use orange natural annatto color instead. Muenster is one of those cheeses that changes dramatically over time. When eaten fresh, it has a mild flavor and melts perfectly for a great panini or on top of a cream cheese bagel. If allowed to age, Muenster literally starts to ooze and become pungent in flavor. The older Muenster gets, the scarier it may be to the not so daring cheese eater.”

Caputo Cheese began in 1978 as a small retail cheese shop, selling small bulk quantities of various types of domestic and imported cheeses. The founders, René and Pasquale Caputo, known for their fine quality and excellent service, soon began providing processed and blended cheeses to food distributors and manufacturers. Caputo eventually expanded their product line to include other high-quality cheeses, as well as Italian specialties such as oils, vinegars, pastas and spices.
