Christmas 2018: Holiday Hours, Closures In Lake Forest
What's open, what's closed, what's got special holiday hours from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day in Lake Forest this year.
LAKE FOREST, IL — The home stretch of the holiday season has arrived, with one more weekend to get ready to kick off the final week of 2018 with Christmas Eve on Monday. North Shore communities are making preparations to observe both the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Last-minute shoppers will be out picking up presents and ingredients for holiday meals, travelers will be on the roads and in the air to meet family and friends for the festive period and most students will be enjoying their winter break through the start of 2019.
First responders and employees at some businesses will be working on Christmas and New Year's, but many area employers will be closed to give workers a chance to gather to share the holiday with loved ones.

Post office: Closed

Federal offices: Closed
Banks: Closed
Gas stations: Open
Refuse Collection: No trash or recycling collections will take place on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Pickups scheduled for Tuesday will take place Wednesday and regular Thursday and Friday collections will remain unchanged. Trees, wreaths and other greenery will be picked up during January on scheduled recycling days. Christmas trees should be cut into 6-foot lengths before being left on the curb.
Lake Forest City Hall: City offices will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.
Lake Forest Library: Closed all day Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. The library will also close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1.
Lake Forest Parks: The rec center will be open until noon on Dec. 24, closed on Dec. 25, open until 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 26-28, until 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1. Administrative offices will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1 and open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 26-28.
Lake Forest Schools: Closed for winter break through Jan. 4.
Gorton Community Center: The drop-in learning center will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 7 for winter break.
Park District of Highland Park: The Centennial Ice Arena, the Deer Creek Racquet Club and the Heller Nature Center will be closed Dec. 25. Park district facilities will be operating with reduced holiday hours on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
Grocery stores: Most will be closed Christmas Day, some will be open and many will have adjusted hours. More info...
