City, SWALCO to Team for Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Find out which materials will be accepted at free October event at Lake Forest's Municipal Service Center.

The City and SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, IL) will host a FREE household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, October 17, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the City’s Municipal Services Center, 800 N. Field Drive.
Accepted materials include:

- Aerosol products
- Anti-freeze and motor oil
- Fertilizers/herbicides/pesticides
- Fluorescent light bulbs/CFLs
- Furniture stripper and varnishes
- Gasoline and kerosene
- Household batteries (lithium and rechargeable only)
- Household cleaners
- Oil-based paints and paint removers
- Prescription and over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet); NO DEA-controlled substances
Items that are NOT accepted include:
- Latex paint
- DEA-controlled substances
- Business and medical wastes
- Farm chemicals
- Propane tanks
- Lead-acid and alkaline batteries
- Explosives
- Fire extinguishers
- Smoke detectors
- Household electronics
SWALCO also offers year-round collection events at its facility in Gurnee by appointment only on the second Saturday and fourth Monday of every month (exceptions may apply). For further information, please visit www.swalco.org or call 847-336-9340.
