Coroner Identifies North Chicago Man Killed By Metra Train
A man hit by an express train Tuesday evening in North Chicago was identified Thursday by Lake County Coroner.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The man killed by a Metra train at the North Chicago station this week was identified Thursday by Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper. Tracey Currie, 29, of North Chicago died after being hit by an express train around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The investigation into his death is still open, but in a statement Thursday, Cooper said he "did die from the injuries sustained from being hit by the train."
A Metra Union Pacific-North Line train due to arrive in Kenosha at 6:27 p.m. on Tuesday was halted after hitting the pedestrian, Metra said. The train was not scheduled to stop in North Chicago.

The North Chicago Fire Department said Currie was crossing from east to west on a pedestrian walkway toward a waiting train and pronounced dead at the scene, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Cooper told the Lake County News-Sun Wednesday that it appeared the signals and equipment at the station was all functional at the time of the incident.
