David Philip Thomas, 81, Lake Bluff

David P. Thomas passed away on September 2, 2022 at the age of 81.

A 50 year resident of Lake Bluff, IL, Dave was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He attended the U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I. and served on the USS Procyon during Vietnam. In 1967, he joined the Naval Reserve, serving at both Great Lakes and the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, and retired as Captain 25 years later. Dave worked for 40 years at Inland Steel/Ryerson Tull in Chicago and was the Director of Tax at the time of his retirement.

Dave, an avid reader, was also known for his intelligent sense of humor. From childhood on, he loved cheering for the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. He looked forward to his daily bike rides and was forever interested in World War II naval history. He was fascinated by everything archeology, and his enthusiasm for tennis was contagious. Dave’s eclectic music tastes spanned the decades, and his love of classical music was enduring. He is predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Paulette, and survived by his children, Carrie, Michael and Susan, along with their families.
