Dold Voices Opposition to Indiana's Religious Freedom Law
Congressman says no law should threaten "obligation to treat all people equally."

Illinois 10th District Congressman Robert Dold, R-Kenilworth voiced his opposition to the controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act signed into state law by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence last week.
“We should not tolerate any law threatening our country’s obligation to treat all people equally,” said Dold, the third Republican in the House of Representatives to co-sponsor the Respect for Marriage Act - a legislation to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act to ensure all legally married same-sex couples have access to federal marriage benefits. “While religious freedom is one of our most important rights as Americans, we cannot allow it to be used as a cover for discrimination and injustice.”
The Indiana law, Senate Bill 101, has been criticized for opening the door for businesses to deny service to someone based on sexual orientation. While several other states have similar laws on the books, most also included clauses prohibiting discrimination.
