Donald "Don" Smith, 88, Lake Forest

Donald “Don” Smith died on April 14, 2023 peacefully in his Lake Forest home, a long-time resident since 1981.

He was born in 1935 in Lansing, MI and was raised in East Lansing, matriculating through Michigan State University where he earned his degrees in Electrical Engineering and Masters in Business Administration. Immediately following, he completed his service with the Air Force where he earned the rank of captain.

Don began a lifelong career with Price Waterhouse, working in the Chicago, Detroit, and again Chicago offices with over 30 years of service when he retired in 1987.

Don married Carrol Andrews in 1963 and began their family. Over the years, Don enjoyed photography, travel, and plants and trees of all types. His greenhouse was a favorite respite of color and beauty he enjoyed each and every day.

The family cottage in Northern Michigan has been a favorite place for the past 50 years where he enjoyed sailing, tennis, pine trees, and time with family and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his sister Carol Ann Bell (Bret) and survived by his children – Amy McJoynt (T. Kevin), Brad (Meeta Yadava), his brother Doug Smith (Mary), his grandchildren Tom, Charlie, Matthew, Henry, and Ellie and his nephews and their families.

A family celebration will be held in August at the family cottage in Northern Michigan.
