DUI Charge Filed Against Woman Who Crashed Into Lake County Squad Car: Police

Authorities allege Lauren Kimbrell was drunk when she collided with a Lake County squad car just after midnight on Route 60 in Mettawa.

METTAWA, IL - A Lake County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver on Route 60 near Riverwoods Boulevard in Mettawa just after midnight Friday morning, according to a report from the department.

Deputies charged Lauren R. Kimbrell, 27 of Waukegan with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at the scene.

Authorities say Kimbrell was the driver of a Kia Spectra when it was headed eastbound and collided with a Sheriff’s vehicle that had its emergency lights on while responding to the area for a report of a separate crash that occurred earlier in the night.

A tow truck driver was towing one of the vehicles from the scene of the first crash when authorities say Kimbrell struck the Sheriff’s vehicle and one of the cars involved in the first crash.

The deputies on scene were able to move out of the way to avoid injury when they saw Kimbrell’s car approaching quickly, the report states.
