Elizabeth deVogelaere, 98, Lake Forest, IL

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest on August 17, 2022.

Elizabeth Burton (Betty) deVogelaere, 98, of Lake Forest, IL passed away on July 29, 2022, surrounded by her four loving children.

Betty was born on August 17, 1923, in Milwaukee, WI to Clifford K. and Mae S. Burton, and she grew up in Oak Park, IL. She attended Northwestern University and transferred to Barnard College in New York City, graduating in 1945. Returning to Oak Park, Betty married Robert deVogelaere in 1946, and she and Bob were married for 55 years until his death in 2001.

Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her passion for life was expansive. She was deeply involved in children’s education and served in leadership roles with the Infant Welfare Society, the Lake Forest PTA, and the Lake Forest Board of Education. Professionally, she pursued a successful career as a real estate broker in Lake Forest. She was an avid traveler, enjoying many golf trips with her husband, and adventures with her daughters around the world. Right up until her death she enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and soaking up some sun.

Betty valued honesty, good manners, trustworthiness, and love of family. She never said an unkind word about anyone and was loved and adored by all.

Betty is survived by her four children - Suzette deVogelaere (Bob Flynn), Robert deVogelaere, Jr., Michele deVogelaere and Janine deVogelaere Baron, and two grandchildren - Wills deVogelaere and Lexi deVogelaere. She also leaves behind 10 beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
