Elizabeth Verkler, 68, Lake Forest

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Verkler, 68, of Lake Forest, passed away unexpectedly on Mother’s Day, May 14th, 2023 in the arms of her husband of 47 years.

Betty was born on September 3rd 1954 to Joseph and Florence Brown in Manhattan, NY. After graduating from Woodlands Academy she went on to earn a degree in special education from Barat College. She then received an accounting degree from California State University Dominguez Hills, becoming one of the few to pass her CPA exam the first time. Betty was an avid athlete playing Basketball in the Junior Olympics and touch Football in college. In 1973, Betty met and fell in love with David Verkler. They were married in 1975 and had 2 children together, David and Curtis. Betty was also a loving mother to her two step-children Ingrid Verkler Szeredy and Eric Verkler.

Betty’s love and support of her family knew no bounds. Always the loudest cheerleader, Betty was a constant source of strength and encouragement for her husband and sons. She nurtured and guided them through life’s challenges selflessly. Her warm and caring nature extended beyond her immediate family touching the lives of all who knew her.

Betty was a passionate cook, seamstress, and crafter who loved filling her house with warmth, kindness and always lots of food. We will miss her elaborate Thanksgiving dinners greatly.

Betty was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Florence Brown and is survived by her loving husband David, children and step-children, 11 grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

The family requests all flowers and notes be sent to Wenban Funeral Home at 320 Vine Ave, Lake Forest, IL 60045 where a visitation will be held on Friday May 19th from 9-11am. Services will follow at 11:30 at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd, Lake Forest, Il.
