Eugene Trager, fondly know by all as Gene left us in his 90th year on Saturday, December 10. He was born in Chicago on November 2, 1933. He loved jumping on street cars with his violin for lessons, the Cubs and playing with his crew of young friends in Albany Park.
He graduated from Von Steuben as class Valedictorian and member of the National Honor Society in 1950. I think he was most proud of making the basketball team and seeing his name on the scoreboard. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree and his medical school degree from the University of Illinois in 1959.
While he was in private practice and affiliated with many hospitals across the Chicago area, he was privileged to be Chief of the Division of Adult Psychiatry at Lutheran General Hospital, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He gave over 60 years of expertise to the field he specialized in and his greatest joy was working with all of the residents.
