The 7th grade Girls Scouts from the School of St. Mary have been holding several fundraisers to earn money to buy a $900 protective vest for Dunkin, the Lake Forest police dog. In addition to work in the Lake Forest community, Dunkin and Officer Shiu work with the Lake County MEG Task Force, which is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement group focusing on illegal drugs, gangs and weapons offenses. As part of this group, Dunkin often encounters dangerous situations and he does not have a protective vest.
The 5K fun run will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Forest Park Beach in Lake Forest. The course will be in the area around the beach. After the race, you can meet Dunkin and see trick dogs showing their skills.
Entry fee is $20 for individuals and $50 for families. Registration forms can be found at fijp99.wix.com/dunkindash or helpdunkin.org, or visit City Hall to register in person.
