Family Pets Rescued From Burning Lake Forest Home

Firefighters saved a family's three pets after a fire broke out in the attic of their Lake Forest home.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Lake Forest firefighters rescued two dogs and a cat from a family home that caught fire Friday afternoon.

The Lake Forest Fire Department responded to reports of smoke near the intersection of Westleigh Road and Green Bay Road in Lake Forest just before 2 p.m. First responders observed smoke coming from the roof of a two-story home.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that there was an active fire in the attic space above the garage. The homeowners informed the firefighters that their family pets were still inside the home.

LFFD safely rescued the family's two dogs and cat and no injuries were reported.

Due to the size and complexity of the incident, LFFD called for additional personnel and resources from nearby jurisdictions. The fire department was assisted by the Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Libertyville, Mundelein, Countryside, Lincolnshire, Grayslake, and North Chicago fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
