Genevieve Neville, 90, Lake Forest

Genevieve “Gen” Neville, 90 died in Lake Forest after a long illness. She was the widow of Dr. James Brian Neville, and the mother of six children, grandmother of 15, and great-grandmother of 3.

Gen was born on February 14, 1932 to Arthur and Gertrude MacVeany in Forest Hills New York, and was one of seven daughters. She graduated from Cerro High School, the Sacred Heart in Havana, Cuba, learning fluent Spanish in the process. She attended the University of Miami and the University of Madrid, and graduating from the Columbia School of Nursing, New York.

She married Brian Neville on Oct 9, 1954, moved to Highland Park Ill, and finally settled in Lake Forest, where she lived and raised her children for almost 60 years. Her ongoing passion was her beautiful garden, featured on the show “A Gardeners Diary.” She earned a Master Gardener Certificate from the Chicago Botanical Garden, where she volunteered and to which she left her extensive library of gardening books.

Dr. Neville died in 2010. Gen is survived by Brian (Clare), Arthur (Dana), Kathleen, Edward (Beth), Michael (Betsy) and Thomas (Kerri), and her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
