Help Stop Gerrymandering! Aug. 8, 15, 22
Members of the League of Women Voters are passing petitions to get a constitutional amendment for redistricting on the ballot. Please sign.
Make a difference! The League of Women Voters -Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area members are circulating petitions to put a constitutional amendment to fix gerrymandering in Illinois. Gerrymandering is when state legislators intentionally draw district boundaries to strengthen the power of those already in office. Previously, the City of Lake Forest passed a resolution encouraging voters to learn more about fixing the redistricting process.
The League has joined the Independent Maps coalition to secure 600,000 signatures throughout the state. The coalition is headed by such notables as Dennis FitzSimons, chairman of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, Peter Bensinger, Hon. Jim Edgar, Hon. Sheila Simon, and Harrison I. Steans. This non-partisan coalition has so far collected 210,000 signatures. By obtaining 600,000 signatures, the coalition will meet the requirements to put the constitutional amendment on the ballot.
A League volunteer will be at the Lake Forest Farmers Market Saturday, August 8, 15, and 22 from 8:00am to 10:30am with petitions. Please stop by: any Illinois voter can sign.
