Higher Water Rates Could be Result of Retrofit Project
Project to retrofit water plant with new filters could mean hike in rates for Lake Forest residents.
Construction on a retrofitted water plant in Lake Forest to help meet industry standards could mean higher rates for citizens, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Retrofitting the plant’s technology would include replacing nearly obsolete 18-inch filters, installed in 2004 by French firm AquaSource, by 10-inch filters, now the industry standard.
“The 18-inch filters previously were available only from AquaSource, whose representatives told Lake Forest officials last year that they would stop making the filters. With a universal filter in use, replacement filters would no longer be scarce and prices could become more competitive,” the Tribune story reads.
