HUD Agent Fatally Shoots Armed Waukegan Teen In Zion: Police

A masked 19-year-old was fatally shot by an agent of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Thursday morning, police said.

ZION, IL — Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating the fatal shooting of a Waukegan teen by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Thursday morning in Zion. The agent told police he was approached by several people shortly after 6 a.m. while sitting in a car in the 3000 block of Ezekiel, according to Zion police.

Police said one member of the group was wearing a bandana over his face and "displayed" a gun to the agent, who shot through the window.

Dishon McBride, 19, of Waukegan was fatally struck. He died as a result of a single gunshot wound, according to Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper.

Police said the other people fled after the shooting and a handgun was found at the scene. The agent was taken to an unspecified hospital for evaluation.

State police said the "open and ongoing" investigation is in its early stages. HUD has not commented on the shooting.

The only armed HUD agents are assigned to its inspector general's office, which investigates allegations of corruption and fraud, WLS-TV reported.

Family members of McBride told the Lake County News-Sun said it did not "fit him" to have been carrying a gun.
