Inaugural Flag-Raising Ceremony Marks Veterans Day In Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, IL — An inaugural flag-raising ceremony in Lake Forest is timed to coincide with Veterans Day next week.

Leaders of Lake Forest School District 67 and American Legion McKinlock Post 264 are hosting the brief ceremony to honor United States military veterans at a newly installed flagpole behind Deer Path Middle School.

The event is scheduled to feature the post's honor guard, including a bugler and two other members, according to district officials. The ceremony is set to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, a day ahead of Veterans Day.

Originally called Armistice Day, Veterans Day has been celebrated every year since the first anniversary of the end of World War I in 1919.

The American Legion is the nations largest veterans service organization, and McKinlock Post 264 is this year marking the centennial of its 1921 re-chartering with a community sponsorship initiative.
