James E. Bedenko, 80, Lake Forest

James E. Bedenko, born March 2, 1943, born to Eternal Life, April 26, 2023. Loving husband of Katherine De Preter Bedenko, Jim died peacefully with her at his side. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary (nee Martinez) Bedenko and Charles Bedenko. Much loved brother of Charles (Pat) Bedenko. Beloved father of Wendy (James, father of Emma and Harrison Moore) Bedenko Moore, and Amanda (Joseph) Gorski. Devoted grandfather of Denton Bedenko Schmidt, Carlotta Bedenko Schmidt, Whitman (Nicholas and Andi) De Preter, Dean and Hansel (Chip and Trish) De Preter.

Having grown up in Hazel Park, MI, Jim proudly graduated with honors from the University of Michigan. He dedicated his 37-year career to Deloitte Consulting, having begun with Touche Ross, where he became the youngest named partner in the firm. Jim was instrumental in the merger with Deloitte in 1989 and the development of the practice of outsourcing consulting. He spent many years heading the firm’s government practice, retiring in 2000 as head of the World-wide Public Sector Consulting Practice. Jim moved to Florida where he honed his golf swing. Jim kept in touch with old friends, made many new friends and enjoyed the slower pace that retirement brings.

In 2005, he married Katherine, the love of his life. They traveled extensively and reveled in time spent with family and friends. Jim had a special place in his heart for his three De Preter grandsons. He laughed easily, loved his Catholic faith and was an ardent patriot. A most generous and kind man, he will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation, Friday, May 5, 2023, from 11:00 to 11:30, Mass of Resurrection at 11:30, Church of St. Mary, 201 E. Illinois Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Luncheon to follow at The Deerpath Inn, 255 E. Illinois Rd, from 1:00 to 3:00.
