John Lussen, of Lake Forest, Illinois and Hilton Head, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 2, 2022. John was born in Bronx, New York, son of Frederick M. Lussen and Kathleen (Herlihy) Lussen.
John graduated with a B.S. in Finance from Fordham University, Juris Doctorate, Fordham University Law School, Master's of Law in Taxation and Master’s Business Administration both from New York University. He was a Captain in the US Army, Military Intelligence and an Assistant District Attorney in New York City. His career began at Pfizer and SCM before coming to Abbott Laboratories in 1979. He was Vice President of Taxes at Abbott Laboratories until his retirement in 2004.
John was a member of the American Bar Association, the Business Roundtable and President of the Puerto Rico U.S.A. Foundation. He served on the Board of Directors for the Clara Abbott Foundation, was a Knights of Columbus member (Hilton Head Council 10668) and a member of Knollwood Country Club.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Timothy Lussen, and many in-laws whom he considered family. John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Kathleen Lussen, daughter Tara (Christopher) Janos of Lake Forest, IL and sons Eric (Meredith Byrne) Lussen of Winnetka, IL and Greg (Kim Currier) of Chicago, IL. John was a beloved grandfather to eight grandchildren: Lauren, Jack, Will, Drew, Sheppard, Colette, Teddy and Evelyn. He is survived by his sister Eileen Lussen of Osprey, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation 4 pm to 6 pm, Monday December 12, 2022, at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave., Lake Forest. Funeral Mass 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest.
