Lake Bluff Crime: Car Dealership Thieves Escape, Dogs On The Loose

Lake Bluff Police Reports: Feb. 19-Feb.25

LAKE BLUFF, IL — The following information comes from the Lake Bluff police department. It is a record of police activity. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in court.

MAN TALKING TO HIMSELF

At 9:41 a.m. on Feb. 19, police responded to the bike path at the train depot on Sheridan for a well-being check. The called had described as a man wearing a gray sweatshirt and talking to himself. The man told police he was just walking for exercise. After running his identity, police let him continue on his way.

DEAD SQUIRREL

At 2:17 p.m. on Feb. 19, police got a call about a dead squirrel on the sidewalk on the 200 block of East Blodgett Avenue. The responding officer removed and disposed of the animal.

OPEN DOOR POLICY?

At 2:49 p.m. on Feb. 18, police got a call of an open door at a business on the 50 block of East Scranton Avenue after a passer-by noticed that the door to the empty establishment had been left wide open and shut the door. Responding officers checked all the building's doors and let a card for the business advising them their door had been left ajar.

FALLEN RESIDENT

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Feb. 21, police responded to a call at the 600 block of Sheridan Road for a person who had fallen and needed help getting up. Lake Bluff Fire and a Lake Forest ambulance arrived, but the person refused to be transported to the hospital.

POSSIBLE MAILBOX THIEF

At 7:04 a.m. on Feb. 22, police got a call about a suspicious vehicle on the 600 block of Arbor Drive. The caller said a maroon Nissan had been driving slowly down the street and may have been going through peoples' mailboxes. Police checked the area and didn't find the vehicle or any other irregularities.

STUCK TRUCK

At 11:28 a.m. on Feb. 22, police found a stopped semi-truck on West Scranton Avenue just west of the Sheridan Road viaduct. The officer met with the driver who stated his truck was too tall to clear the railroad track bridge. Police provided traffic control and the driver was able to turn around and cleared the scene.

IDENTITY THEFT

At 3:47 p.m. on Feb. 22, police responded to the Public Safety building for an identity theft incident involving a Lake Bluff resident.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 22, police responded to the 100 block of East Sheridan Place after a caller reported someone had been using their phone number to buy things.

CITIZEN ASSIST

At 4:42 p.m. on Feb. 22, police responded to an auto dealership on Skokie Highway. They met with a caller who expressed concerns regarding a customer's ownership of a vehicle. Police were able to confirm ownership between the vehicle and the customer in question.

HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT

At 12:31 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to the area of Route 41 south of Route 137 for a two vehicle hit and run crash. Upon speaking with the victim driver, officer determined the crash occurred northbound Route 41 south of Route 22 in Highland Park. Police advised Highland Park police, and stood by with the victim until a HPPD officer arrived.

LOOSE DOGS

At 12:42 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to a call of a loose dog around East Blodgett Avenue and Sheridan Road. The officer on the scene was able to catch the animal and found that it belonged to the homeowner in the 100 block of East Woodland Road. Officer returned the dog to his owner and cleared.

At 1:37 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to a report of a loose dog in the area of East Sheridan Road and Oak Terrace. When the officer checked he area the dog was gone.

HOME ALARM

At 1:39 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to a burglar alarm on the 12800 block of Sanctuary Lane for a burglar alarm that had gone off. Officers on the scene found the home locked with no irregularities.

ACCIDENTS

At 3:39 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to Route 41 and West Washington for a two car property damage accident. Police completed crash reports and issued citations for improper turning and operating an uninsured vehicle.

At 10:50 p.m. on Feb. 23, police responded to a call of a one car crash at South Waukegan Road and Rockland Road. A car hit the southwest corner of a traffic signal pole and deployed its airbags. Lake Bluff and Lake Forest fire departments responded. The vehicle was towed and the driver made their own arrangements to go home.

UNWANTED CHILDREN PLAYING IN YARD

Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 24, police responded to a call that unknown kids were playing in the front yard at the 200 block of East Witchwood Lane. The caller said he did not know the children and was concerned they were on his property. Police talked with nearby groups of kids in the area and asked them to play only at known residences.

DRIVING COMPLAINT

At 9:49 p.m. on Feb. 24, police responded to a report of a car speeding and disobeying stop signs around North McKinley Road and East Sheridan Road, but they were unable to locate the vehicle.

ALLEGED SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 25, police got a call of a suicidal person at the Lake Bluff Train Depot. The train conductor say a man wearing a black leather jack who had attempted to step in front of the train and was now being held by patrons. When police arrived they did not see anyone on the platforms. They checked the nearby bike path and tracks but did not find anyone.

PARKED CAR WITH HEADLIGHTS

Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Feb. 25, police responded to a call of a car parked with its headlights on at the 700 block of East Center Avenue. Officers met with the driver who told them she pulled over to make a telephone call.

CAR DEALERSHIP BURGLARY

At 10 p.m. police responded to a call of a burglary in progress at a local dealership. The alarm company said they saw four suspects breaking a window and entering the business on Skokie Highway. The thieves were gone when police arrived to search the scene. This robbery may have been connected to the group of teens arrested for a break-in the same night at a Wilmette car dealership.
