LAKE BLUFF, IL — In Lake County, 18 men were arrested during an undercover investigation last month after allegedly offering money for sexual acts. The Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force, Gurnee Police Department and Waukegan Police Department participated in the “National Johns Suppression” operation, which involved a coalition of federal and local law enforcement agencies specifically targeting customers of prostitution. The undercover operation, which took place in July, was aimed at suppressing the demand for purchased sex, police said.
Local law enforcement used an online classified service that is regularly used to solicit prostitution during their investigation, according to a news release.

“I’ve said it before, prostitution is not a victimless crime. Prostitution often involves human trafficking and juvenile sex trafficking,” Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said. “In order to put a stop to this, we must continue investigating those trading money for sex, and continue arresting human traffickers. This remains one of the top priorities for the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force.”
