Lake Bluff Obituary: Alice G. Stocklin, 94

A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Alice G. Stocklin, 94, a longtime resident of Lake Bluff, died February 11, 2015 at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.

Alice was born in Koblenz, Germany and moved with her family to Chicago, IL in 1923. She graduated from Roald Amundsen High School in 1938 and attended Wright Junior College. Alice studied opera and was the lead role in The Student Prince and performed at various venues including the Chicago Theater.

Alice met and married Clifford L. Stocklin and moved to Lake Bluff, IL in 1946 where she continued her singing career at Grace United Methodist Church. She was an active member and soloist of the Chancel Choir. Over the years she participated in many clubs in the community.

In 1960, Alice received her cosmetology degree and became a hairdresser, a profession she loved and enjoyed for over 40 years. Her friends were her clients and The Beauty Spa was the place to be. She was loved for her quick wit and talent.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Lind Stocklin (1973) and sons Eric Stocklin (1994), Jon (Sandra) Stocklin (2013). She is survived by her children Kristin (John) Welu, Marne (Edward) Holstein, Mark (Leslie) Stocklin and Felisa (Peter) Donlon. Alice was the cherished grandmother of Mirren (Mark) Theiding, Lindsey (Matthew) Anderson, Brooke (Brian) McCloskey, Kristin (Greg) Gish, E. Stephen Holstein, Jr., Jennifer (Robert) Kelch and Grover P. Donlon, Alexander Dee, Sara Dee and their lovely children; fond great-grandmother of Callum, Tobey, Harper, Darby, Shelby, Theodora, Cecily, Casimir and Olivia.

A memorial service will be held later in the spring. Interment private.
