Lake Bluff Obituary: Suzanne McElvain nee Lunsford

Suzanne McElvain nee Lunsford of Lake Bluff, Illinois died peacefully in Naples, Florida on May 7, 2015.
Suzanne was born on April 2, 1933 to Omer and Belle Lunsford in Indianapolis, Indiana and was raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin and Winnetka, Illinois. She was pre-deceased by her parents and older brother, John. Her younger sister Angela (Glenn) James survives and lives in Southport, North Carolina.
After attending Carleton College and Northwestern University, Suzanne worked at IBM in Chicago in a training capacity for field sales and service representatives in the then fledgling computer industry. It was there that she met and later married David McElvain, her husband of 57 years. Together they raised their family in Flossmoor, Illinois and Birmingham, Michigan returning to the Chicago area in 1987, settling in Lake Bluff.
Suzanne is survived by her husband Dave, and lives on through her four children and ten grandchildren, each of whom have inherited aspects of her independent mind, unbridled spirit and sense of humor: Diane (Rick) Baer, Drew (Maggie) McElvain, Pete (Carol) McElvain, Joel (Alice O’Brien) McElvain, and grandchildren: Alex, Ned, Caroline, Ellie, Eileen, Audrey, Charlie, Kevin, Teddy and Stephen.
Visitation will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster, Lake Forest IL on Wednesday May 13th from 10:30am until the twelve noon funeral service. A reception lunch follows the service in the church hall. Private burial at Sacred Heart cemetery in Northbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, or to the AVOW Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105, in Suzanne’s name.
