Lake Bluff Police Haven't Used Gun on Person Since 1965

Police Chief notes it has been a half-century since the last incident.

It’s been half-a-century since the last time police in Lake Bluff used a gun on a person.

According to a Chicago Tribune article detailing the village’s approval to equip the department with 13 tasers worth $35,000, Police Chief David Belmonte indicated that it has indeed been that long since police were forced into a situation requiring them to discharge a weapon.

In the 1965 situation, the officer involved “came across a burglary in progress and that person was armed with a weapon,” Belmonte told the Tribune. “While Lake Bluff is extremely safe, we deal with a multitude of people who travel through town on Route 176, Green Bay Road, etc.

There is the possibility that anything can happen anywhere.”
