Lake Bluff Trustees to Hear Presentation on Route 53 Extension

Lake County Board Chairman will provide an update at Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday.

Note: This story has been updated to reflect that the village of Lake Bluff will not take action on the Route 53/120 extension project at its August 10 meeting.

The Lake Bluff Village Board will hear a presentation from the Lake County Board Chairman on the proposed Route 53/120 extension at its Monday, August 10 Committee of the Whole meeting.

A resolution signed in 2009 was provided as part of an agenda packet this week to serve as background information regarding the grass roots of the project.

The purpose of Monday’s presentation is ”to hear information on the proposal, ask questions and have a discussion,” according to village administrator Drew Irvin.

Included in the 2009 resolution are several “whereas” clauses noting in part that the extension into Lake County is “an essential part of the comprehensive plan” to meaningfully address the county’s transportation needs, the plan has “an overwhelming consensus of support” from Lake County residents and “traffic congestion in Lake County has continued to grow worse” as the project has been delayed over the years.

The planned Route 53 extension goes north to 120, eastward to Interstate 94 and westward to near U.S. Route 12.

The 2009 resolution also seeks to urge completion of the project “at the earliest possible time.”
