A 47-year-old Lake County man is being held on a $5 million bond for beating his wife and stepson to death with a baseball bat following an argument over the weekend in Beach Park, police said Monday.
Armando Trejo, of the 10200 block of West Bairstow Ave. in Beach Park, is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery following the beating that left his wife, Lailani Uy Trejo, 43, and her son, Patrick K. Cruz Uy, 14, dead, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Detective Christpoher Covelli said.
Police were called to the home on West Bairstow Avenue in Beach Park at 2:45 a.m. Sunday where they found the mother and son dead in the home. Both had obvious signs of trauma, Covelli said. The mother of Armando, a 68-year-old woman, was also found injured inside the home and taken to a local hospital. She has since been treated and released.
Trejo was inside the home when police arrived and was taken into custody. Covelli said he admitted to detectives that he struck Trejo and Uy numerous times on the head and body with a baseball bat. Evidence technicians found a metal bat at the crime scene containing what appeared to be blood, police said.
Trejo is next expected in court on Dec. 22. Autopsies of both victims are currently underway by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
