Lake Forest Civic Orchestra Named Community Orchestra Of The Year

The Illinois Council of Orchestras honored the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra as its 2026 Community Orchestra of the Year.

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Lake Forest Civic Orchestra was recognized by the Illinois Council of Orchestras as the 2026 Community Orchestra of the Year.

The council's judging panel commended the LFCO's exemplary service and achievements.

LFCO Board Member and Flutist Melinda Vajdic said the award is an honor because the orchestra works hard to provide a unique experience for its audience. The orchestra makes it a point to support its community through outreach programs.

Last year, the Civic Orchestra hosted a Bravo Waukegan event for that organization, a group whose mission is to get instruments in the hands of budding musicians.

"We have been around for 37 years as an orchestra, and have truly grown into our best version in recent years, as this award demonstrates. It is truly a thrill to be recognized in this way," Vajdic told Patch.

The orchestra's application focused on its strategic goal-setting, which led to successful fundraising and sustainable operations, according to board member LoriLee Bielski. Board President Howard Martino said the orchestra is grateful to its patrons and supporters for helping it continue to flourish.
