Lake Forest College to host talks on opioid epidemic
Contributor to Emmy Award-winning film to speak, participate in panel discussion on biases in pharmaceutical research

Lake Forest College welcomes Necia Freeman, activist and missionary, who will talk about her experiences with those suffering from addiction in Huntington, West Virginia, the center of the opioid crisis.
Freeman was featured in the Netflix documentary Heroin(e), which won the Emmy Award for outstanding short documentary in 2018 and was nominated for an Oscar. The film follows three women—a fire chief, a judge, and Freeman—battling West Virginia’s devastating opioid epidemic.
This free talk will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 at 555 North Sheridan Road, Lake Forest in the College’s Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel on Middle Campus.

Freeman also will take part in a faculty panel discussion on the negative effects of racial and economic bias in pharmaceutical drug treatment. The panel discussion will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30 in the College’s Lillard Science Center, also located on Middle Campus.
