Lake Forest Cop Completes Walt Disney World Marathon

Colleen Syc, a Navy veteran, raised more than $3K for charity.

Lake Forest Police Officer Colleen Sync recently completed the Dopey Challenge, a 48.6-mile run at Walt Disney World, to help support wounded post 9/11 service members start and maintain their healing process. In the process, she raised more than $3,000 for Catch A Lift, a non-profit which provides veterans with gifted gym memberships or home gym equipment.

Syc, a veteran of the United States Navy, set the 48.6-mile goal last year and set monthly goals to participate in at least two races a month to prepare. In the process, she completed more than 15 races, ranging from 5K (3.1 miles) to a ½ marathon (13.1 miles).

“This was a life changing event that was such an honor to do,” said Syc, who placed 42nd in her division with a 22:52 5K, 1:44.24 half-marathon and 3:53.57 full marathon times.
