Lake Forest Crime: Thieves Steal Hyundai, Accidents Lead To DUI Arrests

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from the Lake Forest Police Department as a record of police activity. An arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All defendants are innocent until their guilt is established by a court of law.
STOLEN CAR & CAR BURGLARIES
Between midnight and 4 a.m. on April 22, multiple cars were broken into in the area of Timber Lane and Beverly Road. Lake Forest police said thieves opened several unlocked vehicles and searched their interiors as they sought keys or other valuables. An unlocked 2013 Hyundai was stolen from the 600 block of Timber when the thieves managed to find keys. No suspects have been identified, and anyone with information is asked to call the Lake Forest Police.

ILLEGAL TRANSPORTATION OF ALCOHOL, FAILURE TO SECURE A CHILD, CELL PHONE VIOLATION, SUSPENDED LICENSE
Angelic A. Poindexter, 35, of the 600 block of Constitution Drive in Palatine was arrested April 20 at 2:41 p.m. after Lake Forest police on routine patrol in the area of Waukegan Road and Everett Road witnessed the driver of a green Nissan talking on the phone while making a turn and striking a curb. When police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, they noticed a child under 8 years old who was not in a car seat. Poindexter’s driver’s license was also found to be suspended and police located an open bottle of alcohol in the front seat area. She was arrested, charged with driving while license suspended, cell phone violation, failure to secure a child under age 8, illegal transportation of alcohol, processed and released.

DUI-ALCOHOL
Mary J. Brooks, 36, of the 400 block of Donin Drive in Antioch was arrested April 21 shortly after 8 a.m. after police responded to a two-car accident involving a black 2016 Jeep Compass SUV and a black Hyundai Santa Fe SUV with airbags deployed at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Regency Lane. Witnesses told police that the Jeep Compass, driven by Brooks, was driving erratically right before the crash. Police immediately smelled alcohol on the breath of Brooks, who later admitted to drinking the night before. When she later submitted to a breath test, police said she registered a 0.142 blood alcohol content. She was charged with numerous traffic offenses including DUI‐Alcohol and released on bond.
DUI, SUSPENDED LICENSE, NO INSURANCE
Magadan C. Lopez, 23, of the 2100 block of Prospect Avenue in North Chicago was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle and open transport of alcohol, and Mitchell J. Avila, 26, of the 1700 block of Berwick Boulevard in Waukegan was cited for driving on a suspended license after police responded to a report of an accident at Route 41 and Deerpath Road around 7:30 p.m. on April 23. Police identified Lopez and Avila as the two drivers involved, and found Lopez to be at fault. During the investigation, police found Lopez had open alcohol in her vehicle and shows signs of intoxication. Both Lopez and Avila were processed and released on bond.
