Lake Forest Dance Academy Names New Director, Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The City of Lake Forest is proud to announce the appointment of Valerie Gonzalez as Director of Lake Forest Dance Academy.

Ms. Gonzalez becomes Director after serving on the dance faculty at the Recreation Center, since 1999, while also directing and choreographing for the school’s performance company. Valerie is a recognized dance teacher throughout the North Shore, Northwest Indiana, Wisconsin and New York. She holds an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Valerie has trained and performed with numerous notable dance companies and has performed across the country and internationally. Ms. Gonzalez said - “I’ve had very broad performance experience. From concert jazz dance, commercial dance, films and promotional work, I’ve even had the chance to tour the Mediterranean performing at military bases in a USO style show. I love getting to share my experiences in dance through teaching. And I’m honored to share my passion for dance at LFDA.” Melanie Thornberry, parent of dancer, said – “Valerie’s professionalism, expertise and enthusiasm is apparent. So many Lake Forest and Lake Bluff dance students comment that LFDA is the most enjoyable dance school in the area.”

This season launches the 40th year that Lake Forest Dance Academy will provide high quality dance education in a variety of styles for students starting at age 2. Lake Forest Dance Academy is a member of the National Dance Education Organization, a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and a member of the Cecchetti Council of America. LFDA has an inspiring staff of 20 faculty dedicated to student development.

Lake Forest Dance Academy presents 3 concerts annually, and is determined to use its talents to give back to the community in the form of fundraising and benefit performances. Each year a charitable organization is chosen as the recipient of fundraising efforts. Previous benefactors have included Rainbows for All Children, Benny’s World, Camp Hope and Equestrian Connection.
