Lake Forest, Lake Bluff Runners Compete In Chicago Marathon

CHICAGO — It may have been a long wait, but for the participants in the 43rd edition of the Chicago Marathon, it was worth it. Taking place for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunday's race was filled with local participants.

There were 12 runners from Lake Bluff and 41 from Lake Bluff out of the approximately 26,000 that finished the marathon, according to unofficial results.

Among local runners, the highest finish within an age and gender group was Lake Forest resident Lori Fitzgerald, who finished 55th among women aged 45 to 49.

Seifu Tura, of Ethiopia, won the men's race with a time of 2:06:12 seconds, while and Ruth Chepngetich, of Kenya, took the women's crown after finishing in 2:22:31. The wheelchair race was won by Daniel Romanchuk and Tatyana McFadden, both of the United States, in 1:29:07 and 1:48:57.

The first 25 Lake Forest and Lake Bluff runners to cross the finish line were the following:

• Mark Shanahan, of Lake Forest, 3:20:46, 309th in the 25-29 age division, 1,622 among men, 1,942 overall
• Kevin Berril, of Lake Forest, 3:34:55, 438th in the 40-44 age division, 2,586th among men, 3,291 overall
• Kelsey Stoll, of Lake Bluff, 3:38:48, 237th in the 25-29 age division, 839th among women, 3,700th overall
• Lori Fitzgerald, of Lake Forest, 3:38:50, 55th in the 45-49 age division, 841st among women, 3,705th overall
• Aaron Cole, of Lake Forest, 3:51:53, 753rd in the 35-39 age division, 3,976th among men, 5,411 overall
• Peter Lincoln, of Lake Forest, 3:54:48, 197th in the 20-24 age division, 4,262th among men, 5,875th overall
• James Andreesen, of Lake Forest, 3:57:23, 138th in the 55-59 age division, 4,543 among men, 6,316 overall

• Nicole Quick, of Lake Bluff, 4:31:44, 653rd in the 40-44 age division, 4,121st among women, 11,853rd overall
• John Kelley, of Lake Forest, 4:31:48, 613rd in the 50-54 age division, 7,739th among men, 11,862nd overall
• Francis Nicholson, of Lake Forest, 4:32:51, 359th in the 20-24 age division, 7,827 among men

Participants in this year's race were required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of attending the event
