A 25-year-old woman and her 20-month-old son died after a Friday crash between an SUV and a semi truck.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Two people who died in a traffic crash Friday in North Chicago have been identified as a Lake Forest mother and her young child. Christina Mier, 25, and her 21-month-old son died when an SUV collided with a semi truck, according to Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper.

North Chicago police responded to the crash around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Waukegan and Buckley roads. A Nissan Rogue had struck the rear corner of the semi's trailer while the truck had stopped to make a right turn into westbound Buckley Road, according to a preliminary police investigation.

"The preliminary results of the autopsies confirm that both victims died of multiple traumatic injuries from the crash. The toxicology results are pending," Dr. Cooper stated.
