LAKE FOREST, IL — Almost a month after it made a personal finance website's top 20 list of the safest cities in Illinois, Lake Forest earned a similar distinction from a home security company.

The city made the list of 15 safest cities in the state compiled by Protection 1. Lake Forest was ranked No. 14 based on the company's study of FBI crime statistics of Illinois communities with a population of more than 8,000 people.

Lake Forest earned its ranking thanks to 0.10 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 7.50 property crimes per 1,000 residents, according to the study.
