Lake Forest Obituary: Evo R. "Ed" Bindi, 90

WWII Veteran will have memorial service in March or April.

Evo R. “Ed” Bindi, 90, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth, nee Swensen, of Lake Forest, Illinois, where they lived for 50 years. Other survivors include his sons Stephen of Lake Forest, Illinois, and David (Catherine) of Crystal Lake, Illinois, grandchildren Gioia Bindi of Bloomington, Illinois, William Bindi of Palo Alto, California, step-grandchildren Christopher Viohl of McHenry, Illinois & Abigail Czaja (Kristopher), step-great-grandchildren Owen & Cole Czaja of Rockton, Illinois, & many nieces & nephews. Ed was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Army attached to the OSS & stationed in northern Africa and Italy. While in Italy, he was able to secure an audience with the Pope, which meant a lot to him at the time, growing up Catholic. After being discharged from the Army in late 1945, he attended the University of Illinois on the GI Bill, receiving his BS in 1949. He was a lifelong supporter of the Illini. He spent his entire career in the insurance business, primarily as a commercial insurance broker. He enjoyed good food & playing golf, hitting a hole in one on the 13th at Deerpath in Lake Forest. According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service is being planned for March or April.
