Lake Forest Obituary: Gladys Marie Glombowski, 84

Services for the longtime Sheridan Elementary School teacher will take place Saturday afternoon in Lake Forest.

Gladys Marie Glombowski passed away peacefully July 17 surrounded by friends at the age of 84. Glombowski was born February 20, 1933, in Port Huron, Michigan to parents Randolph and Hazel.

In 1959, she married Ambrose Michael Glombowski, the boy next door, and the couple enjoyed 57 years together. In 1967, she earned her degree in teaching and the pair moved to Lake Forest.

For over 23 years, Glombowski taught first and third grades at Sheridan Elementary School.

Glombowski loved knitting and made many sweaters and blankets for family and friends.

Glombowski was also a very talented cook and baker. She baked the most delicious pies for family gatherings.

Glombowski and her husband had many adventures together, from dog sledding in Alaska to a trip to the Antarctica and a vacation at the Equator.

Glombowski and her beloved husband enjoyed cross country skiing, bicycle riding, walking their black labs, spending time with friends, and driving their Model A, the car Ambrose owned when the two were first dating.

Glombowski was preceded in death by her loving husband Ambrose and her parents.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 22, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.,with a funeral service starting at 2 p.m. at Wenban Funeral Home 320 Vine in Lake Forest.
