Lake Forest Obituary: Gwendolyn C. Griffen, 94

Gwendolyn C. Griffen, 94, of Lake Forest, IL died February 22, 2016. Gwendolyn was born on May 16, 1921 to Arthur and Ella (Druley) Griffen, Sr. in Chicago. Gwendolyn graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Communications. She loved to cook, often times experimenting on her family. Gwendolyn developed a recipe for a Dole Pineapple contest, her Pineapple Bean Burger won her a trip to Hawaii to present it in the finals. She was well known for sharing her inner child with her nieces and nephews, and when they were too old for the “kids table”, she shared it with the neighborhood children, hosting tea parties, and writing letters to Santa. Gwendolyn is survived by; Nephews and Nieces, Allan (Karen) Benglen, Betz (Dale) Lucas, Lisa (Rob) Baker, and Zachary (Chrissy) Lucas; cousins, Caryl Druley, and Kenn (Kathleen) Druley; God-daughter Lynda (Jeff) Schnedl, and many more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria Benglen, and brother Arthur L. Griffen, Jr. Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 26, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, IL. Private family burial will take place at Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst, IL prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Lake Forest in Gwendolyn’s name.
