Lake Forest Obituary: Mirtia H. Drechsler

Mirtia H. Drechsler (nee Hernandez) passed away March 2, 2015. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry C. Drechsler, and her dear siblings Miriam Hernandez and Sergio Hernandez. She is survived by her children George S. Ovies (Barbara Bahrke), Beatriz Ovies Colburn (Steven Colburn) and Henry C. Drechsler II (Jennifer Bessemer-Marando), and her sisters Verena Magalys Williams and Mayda Lopez. Mirtia was also blessed with the love of many adoring grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Havana, “Abuela” left the life she knew in Cuba and bravely arrived in the United States in 1961 to give her children a better life. She was proud to be an American citizen. She married Henry C. Drechsler in 1967. Together they resided happily in Lake Forest, Illinois, where she continued to live until her death. Mirtia was passionate about her love of family, her home and her garden. She will be fondly remembered for her tenacious spirit and her overwhelming generosity.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Avenue, Lake Forest, Illinois 60045. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at 12:00 pm. Private interment will immediately follow the services.
