Lake Forest Picks New Concessions Partner For Forest Park Beach

The city selected The Cotton Duck after a competitive process to upgrade food service at Forest Park Beach.

LAKE FOREST, IL — This summer, Lake Forest residents will enjoy new and upgraded concessions services at Forest Park Beach.

The Lake Forest City Council selected The Cotton Duck as the new concessions partner for Forest Park Beach, a move the city said will bring expanded menu options, flexible hours and occasional special events to the lakefront this summer.

The beach opens Memorial Day weekend, when residents will get their first chance to see the upgraded concessions program.

"Being Lake Forest residents and growing up here, it really means a lot to be able to bring our business to the beach concession," The Cotton Duck co-founder Cecilia Lanyon said.

According to the city, the effort began in December 2025, when the City Council expressed interest in expanding concession offerings and improving the overall experience at Forest Park Beach. The city then issued a Request for Proposals in early 2026 and reviewed submissions and interviewed vendors before making its selection.

The Cotton Duck is a locally connected team behind Peanut Gallery, Lucky Duck, The Gallery and the Revelry Food & Wine Festival. The city reported that the vendor stood out because of its local ties, hospitality experience and commitment to food quality and service.

The city said the new operator plans broader and more approachable menu offerings and operating hours based on when residents are most likely to be at the beach.

At the March 16 City Council meeting, The Cotton Duck shared a sample menu that included options for kids as well as a varied selection of other foods. The sample menu is based on what is served at The Peanut Gallery restaurant and is subject to change, but includes hot dogs, flatbreads, paninis and more.

Concession stands will also serve alcohol, according to the city.

The city said affordable pricing is also part of the plan so the concessions remain accessible to families and other beachgoers.

The concessions upgrade also ties to Lake Forest's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. According to the city, the project supports the plan's focus on Recreation and Community Well-Being.

The city said the goal is to make it easier for residents to grab a snack between swims or sit down for a meal by the lake.

"As a beachgoer, I think this is a pretty spectacular lineup. I'm excited about it," Parks and Recreation Director Michael Wick said.
