Lake Forest Selected as 'Underrated' Midwestern Town to Visit This Fall

Fodor's Travel impressed with Deer Path Inn, Sweet Pete's and Kelsey's Resale.

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest was selected as one of the 25 most underrated Midwestern towns worth visiting this fall by Fodor's Travel, which offers online travel advice and printed travel guides.

The list didn't have an order, but included several off-the-beaten path destinations in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan and Indiana.

Here's what Fodor's had to say about Lake Forest, the only Lake Michigan town in Illinois to be included.

"This suburb—home to many Chicago-area celebrities and sports stars—welcomed a major hotel revamp this year (Deer Path Inn), with afternoon tea and a lively pub. Kick off your shoes at Lake Forest’s public beach or stroll downtown shops for handmade chocolates and retro candies at Sweet Pete’s, or score designer-consignment duds at Kelsey Resale."

Lake Forest was one of four Illinois communities to make the list -- Geneva, Galena and Woodstock were also selected as places to visit this fall.
