League of Women Voters: Membership Event to Honor Margaret Hart

Fall Kick-off Slated for Sept. 10 at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff

The League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area (LWV-LF/LB) will host its annual fall membership social “Celebrating Civic Engagement” and honor long-time member Margaret Hart on Sunday, September 10. The event will take place at Shoreacres (1601 Shoreacres Road) in Lake Bluff overlooking Lake Michigan at 1 p.m

“I am delighted to bring both veteran and prospective members together for this kick-off,” said LWV-LF/LB President Wyn Cain. “During a time when people ask, ‘What can one person do?’ we are honoring a long-time pillar of our community who shows how it’s done. The League is proud to have earned Margaret’s support over these many years.”

Hart’s dedication to the community includes serving as president of the Lake County Republican Federation and twice as a delegate to Republican conventions. She is the cofounder of Lake County Cares (formerly Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Volunteer Center), an elder of the First Presbyterian Church (Lake Forest), and a Life Director of Lake Forest Open Lands Association.

Hart has served on several boards, including the McCormick Theological Seminary (chair), National Parks Conservation Association, and WTTW Public Television. Her interest in education extends from serving as a school board member of Lake Forest Elementary District 67 to board member emeritus of Lake Forest College. In the early 1970s, she was appointed by Congressman Robert McClory to the Women in the Armed Forces Commission in the U.S. Defense Department to study the pros and cons having women in the military.

The event will include light refreshments and brief updates from Lake Forest Mayor Rob Lansing and Lake Bluff President Kathleen O’Hara, with time available for Q&A. Free to League and community members. Seating is limited. Call Linda (847-234-7069) to register. The League welcomes men and women of all ages to become members.
