LFCDS Hosts Annual "Family Reading Night"

Lake Forest Country Day School's "Family Reading Night" featured Bob and Sally Bullard, long time and beloved LFCDS faculty members.

Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) families attended the annual “Family Reading Night” at the school on Tuesday night. An LFCDS tradition, Family Reading Night always coincides with the annual LFCDS Book Fair. This year’s event involved faculty readings and book raffles for students.

Students came dressed in pajamas and were served hot chocolate and cookies as LFCDS faculty members read books out loud to students and their family members. Sara Walsh, Director of Early Childhood and Parent Relations, read “You are Not My Friend, But I miss You;” Anna Harrison, junior kindergarten teacher, read “My Teacher is a Monster;” Kim Kohl, senior kindergarten teacher, read “The Book with No Pictures;” Bob Bullard, Assistant Head of School, and Sally Bullard, Head of Lower School, read “Tall Tales;” and Kevin Nicholson, new Lower School science teacher, read “Creature Features.” Each book reading was received with giggles and laughter by the students seated on the atrium floor.

Current LFCDS parents Rachel Osborne, Vicki Pasma, and Amy Roby orchestrated this night of family fun. Mrs. Osborne started the first Family Reading Night seven years ago. “Family Reading Night has become a treasured event for LFCDS students, parents, and teachers to come together and celebrate a common love of reading. Teachers are always delighted to share some of the exciting new releases while students curl up in their pajamas with hot cocoa to listen. Parents are appreciative of the extended Book Fair hours and the opportunity to gather together with other LFCDS families.”

This year, Bob Bullard and Sally Bullard attended their last Family Reading Night at LFCDS. Mr. and Mrs. Bullard have announced they will retire from Lake Forest Country Day School at the end of this school year. When they read “Tall Tales” out loud to the students, many children snuck up close and surrounded Bob and Sally as they listened intently. Lake Forest Country Day School values strong family-school relationships and this year’s Family Reading Night reflected this emphasis.

Lake Forest Country Day School is a premier regional independent school dedicated to excellence in education for children ages 2 to Grade 8. For more information on LFCDS, please visit www.lfcds.org or call (847) 234-2350.
