LFHS Dance Team Going to State

The Varsity Gold will compete in Bloomington on Friday after qualifying last weekend in Roselle.

Lake Forest High School’s Varsity Gold Dance team will compete in the IHSA state competition on Friday in Bloomington. The team advanced last weekend after placing in the top six out of 15 teams at a qualifier at Lake Park High School in Roselle.

The team, comprised of 15 freshman and sophomore students, all began dancing competitively at area studios in elementary school.

“The Gold team has worked hard to establish themselves as a varsity team,” their coach, Samantha Gavigan, noted. “Due to the unique situation of our Varsity Blue team attending the Universal Dance Association Nationals Competition on the same weekend as the State Competition, I knew from the beginning of the season that our JV team would need to raise the bar in order to qualify for State at the varsity level.”

Gavigan credits coaches Nikki Lazzaretto and Jen Van Skyock for having “melded the two teams into a cohesive program with the same rigorous conditioning/practice schedule” and the “high expectations” for both squads.

“We are incredibly excited for the opportunity to compete in Bloomington and are working this week to fine tune our routine to perform our personal best.”
