Members of Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Present Check to Beacon Place

Local society of women educators presents check to Beacon Place for Backpacks filled with school supplies

Beacon Place in Waukegan is an incredible facility providing much- needed services to Waukegan- area families. Volunteers here feed, educate, train, and empower children and families . As a result, these families develop as stronger individuals. Tutoring for students of all ages and classes for parents in cooking nutritious meals for their families as well as information on how to help their children be successful in school are just a few of the programs offered to the community.

Beacon Place programs used to be held in area schools. The new Beacon Place is a house on McAlister in Waukegan that was a dream of Barb and her volunteers. It was purchased in December of 2012 and is now at the final stage of restoration. An open house will be held in May.

Delta Kappa Gamma learned of the organization and raised money to help provide backpacks and school supplies for their students. A grant from DKG’s Lambda State Foundation for Educational Studies, along with a book sale at our chapter meeting, and a soup, salad, and dessert luncheon at Adler School in Libertyville netted nearly $1000 that was presented to Beacon Place on April 10.
